I bought a ps/2 to usb converter to use my old ps/2 mouse on my laptop and it's not recognized by my pc...Help? - how can i use an old mouse on a usb laptop

Like I said, (I have a PS / 2 USB adapter to buy the old mouse (PS / 2) on my laptop I have Vista) and is not recognized by my PC ... Is there a driver or something or is it just that some mice and keyboards are connected via these processors? Thank you for your reply.
